Rose Walker Founding Partner Hal Walker Dies

DALLAS – Harold H. “Hal” Walker, Jr., a founding partner in the Dallas law firm Rose•Walker, L.L.P., has died.

Mr. Walker, who was 54-years-old, died in his sleep, apparently after suffering a heart attack.  He is survived by his wife, Nona Walker, also a partner in the firm; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Walker, Sr.; a sister, Vickie Walker, and brother, Blake Walker; and by his daughter, Jordan Walker, and son, Brandt Walker.

“We have lost someone who was a great friend, a great lawyer and a great philosopher,” said Martin Rose, also a founding partner of the firm.  “I want to express my great sorrow to Nona and all of Hal’s family, and let them know we are here to provide whatever support we can.”

“At the same time, I know Hal would want us to mourn, and then continue the work we’re doing,” Mr. Rose added.  “And we intend to do just that.”

Mr. Walker grew up in Dallas and graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas in 1980.  He remained dedicated to the school and its mission, and at the time of his death held the positions of vice president and director of the St. Mary’s University Law Foundation.

He began his career in law as an attorney with Gardere & Wynne, now Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, where he and Mr. Rose first worked together.  In 1999, the two left the firm to start Rose•Walker, L.L.P.  Today, Rose•Walker boasts 16 attorneys and handles complex business litigation in Texas and around the country.

Hal Walker was a trial lawyer who loved being in the courtroom and trying cases.  He also enjoyed using his many years of experience to teach younger lawyers. The firm plans to establish a scholarship in his honor, to benefit law students at St. Mary’s University School of Law.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 6, 2007, 6-8 p.m. at the Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Northwest Highway in Dallas. A memorial celebrating Hal's life will be held Sunday, April 22, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Arlington Hall at Lee Park, 333 Turtle Creek Boulevard.
